Uri Pianka is a native of Israel. From 1954 to 1958, he studied at New York's Juilliard School, where he earned an artist's diploma. He joined the Israel Philharmonic in 1959 and was concertmaster for 18 years before joining the Houston Symphony as concertmaster from 1984 until 2005.
