COMPOSITION 2005 : First Prize
Belgian composer and pianist Hans Sluijs has studied at the conservatories of Antwerp and Tilburg (The Netherlands) under the tutelage of Jacques de Tiège (piano). At the same time, he followed private lessons with Lode Backx (piano) and Jean-Paul Vanden Driessche (harmony and composition). After graduating from the conservatory, he continued his studies with the latter, under whom he developed his composing skills. In addition he took private lessons with Wonmi Kim in Italy and as a young musician with the American pianist Steven Kemper. Although his repertoire is very vast, he prefers compositions by Bach, Liszt and Scriabin. Hans Sluijs regularly plays recitals. His first string quartet Weerspiegelingen (op. 2) earned him the Award of the City of Harelbeke and was performed for the first time in November 2002.
