VIOLIN 2015 : semi-finalist
Born in Seoul, Ji Won Song began her musical studies under Nam-Yun Kim and Bon-Jiu Koo at the Korea National University of Arts. She went on to further studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music, the New England Conservatory, and the Juilliard School, under David Cerone, Ida Kavafian, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Victor Danchenko, Donald Weilerstein, and Soovin Kim. Ji Won Song has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, under conductors such as Rossen Milanov, Augustin Dumay, and Nanse Gum. She has won prizes at a number of competitions : the Isang Yun in Korea, the Leopold Mozart in Augsburg, the China International in Qingdao, the Alice & Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition, the Schadt competition, and the Tibor Varga in Sion. She has also been awarded the Curtis Institute’s Milka Violin Artist Prize.
