02/07/2020 The paths of conductor and violinist Georges Octors and the Queen Elisabeth Competition have crossed for several decades. We dived into our archives to find the audiovisual traces of this precious collaboration.
"As the Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition was postponed to 2021, Belgian television happily devoted several evenings to competition sessions from the past.
Often we had the pleasure to notice the elegant silhouette of Georges Octors amongst the musicians.
Who would have thought that he would leave us soon after at a blessed age?
He conducted the National Orchestra of Belgium during the finals from 1978 to 1989 and he did so with precision and great empathy for the candidates.
A high-level violinist and eminent member of several ensembles himself, he knew the repertoire in and out, its difficulties and its take-offs.
Together with the young artists and his orchestra he made us live unforgettable moments.
The Queen Elisabeth Competition will keep a grateful and warm memory of this great Master who is part of our history."
Jan Huyghebaert, President of the Queen Elisabeth Competition
